  • In Gujarat, an unique Ro-Pax ferry service between Ghogha and Dahej was launched by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

  • Union Minister Smt Harsimrat Badal inaugurates Gujarat’s first Mega Food Park in Surat; says 2nd Park in Mehsana sanctioned.

Delhi records its worst air quality of this season

  • Delhi recorded its worst air quality of this season today as a thick haze engulfed the national capital which continued to grapple with deteriorating air quality.
  • Overall Air Quality Index of the national capital was recorded at 381 which falls in the very poor category, the highest of this season and just points below severe pollution level.

West Bengal

First container movement on inland waterways

  • Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) will transport container cargo belonging to the food and beverage giant PepsiCo (India) from Kolkata to Varanasi on river Ganga (National Waterway-1).
  • This would be the country’s first container movement on inland vessel post-independence.

INTERNATIONAL

Foreign workers in Qatar can now leave country without prior permission from employers

  • In Qatar, the long-awaited reform of controversial foreign workers exit visa system came into force.
  • Under the new law, all but five per cent of a company’s workforce, except those in most senior positions, can leave without prior permission from employers.

SCIENCE

Emission testing Facility

  • Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan said an Emission testing Facility has been established at CSIR-NEERI and extensive training is in progress for conventional and green crackers for monitoring the emissions and sound.

SWAS, SAFAL and STAR

  • CSIR scientists have developed Less Polluting Firecrackers which are not only environment friendly but 15-20 % cheaper than the conventional ones.
  • These crackers have been named as safe water releaser (SWAS), safe minimal aluminium (SAFAL) and safe thermite cracker (STAR).

Conference on Innovation in Cyberspace, Cyber Security Challenges & Innovations

  • Defence Research and Development Organization, DRDO organised a day-long conference on “CCTNS–Good practices and Success Stories” organised by National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) in New Delhi.
