October 27 – World Day for Audiovisual Heritage

  • The World Day for Audiovisual Heritage takes place every 27 October. This commemorative day was chosen by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 2005 to raise of awareness of the significance of and preservation risks recorded sound and audiovisual documents. Theme “Your Story is Moving”.

Haryana

  • Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced a Film City would be developed in the state on Public Private Partnership after unveiling the Film Policy of Haryana in Gurgaon.

Tamil Nadu

  • Tamil Nadu has created a national record by opening over 16 lakh postal savings accounts under the Sukanya Samridhi Yojana.

SCIENCE

World’s smallest optical gyroscope developed

  • Scientists have developed the world’s smallest optical gyroscope – a device that helps vehicles, drones and handheld electronic devices know their orientation in 3D space.

Two new gecko species

  • The spot-necked day gecko and the Anaimudi day gecko, both very distinctly-patterned lizards found only in the Agasthyamalai and Anamalai hill ranges in the Western Ghats, are the latest additions to India’s reptile fauna.

New leaf-warbler bird species discovered in Indonesia

  • A new bird species founded named as Phylloscopus rotiensis after the Rote, dry Indonesian island, the only locality where it can be found.

Aloe vera to remove oil from water

  • IIT Guwahati researchers use aloe vera gel to convert a commercially available porous material that is oil-loving (oleophilic) to become extremely oil-repelling by coating it with the gel.

  • Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed massive inflow of tourists both domestic and international jumping from 2.5 lac to 9 lac in last few years.

  • Only the Political Parties registered under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951) and which secured not less than one per cent of the votes polled in the last General Election to the House of the People or the Legislative Assembly of the State, shall be eligible to receive the Electoral Bonds.

DAC approves upgrade of 17 Dornier aircrafts of Indian Coast Guard

  • The Defence Acquisition Council on Saturday approved the Mid Life Upgrade of 17 Dornier Aircraft of Indian Coast Guard at an approximate cost of Rs 950 crore.
  • The upgrades will be carried out by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

Governors’ panel submits 21 recommendations to President for doubling farmers’ income

  • A committee of governors set up by President Ram Nath Kovind submitted a report on approach to agriculture for doubling the income of farmers in the country which made 21 major recommendations. Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik headed the panel.

72nd Raising day of the Infantry battalion of the Indian Army in Ooty

  • Special parade, march past and offering of wreaths were held at the Madras Regiment Training Centre, Wellington, Coonoor, Ooty, Tamil Nadu to commemorate the 72nd Raising day of the Infantry battalion of the Indian Army.

US military successfully tests ballistic missile intercept system

  • The US military successfully shot down a medium-range ballistic missile in a test of a new interceptor system. It is co-developed with Japan.

UN Human Rights Prize

  • The United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights is an honorary award given for outstanding achievement in human rights.
  • The award ceremony will take place on December 10 on World Human Rights Day in New York.

  • Sourav Kothari defeated Peter Gilchrist of Singapore to clinch the 2018 World Billiards Championship title at Leeds in UK.

  • Chris Broad became the second member of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees to reach 300 ODIs trails the Sri Lankan Ranjan Madugalle by only 36 ODIs.
