  • Goa health minister Vishwajit Rane said that the state government will set up a centre of excellence for HIV care by December 2019.

Bill passed proposing 16 per cent quota for Marathas

  • The Maharashtra assembly unanimously passed a bill proposing 16 per cent reservation for Marathas under socially, educationally and economically backward category.

UK amends weapons bill to ensure right to possession of kirpans by Sikhs

  • The UK government has confirmed an amendment to a new weapons bill going through the Parliament to ensure that it would not impact the right of the British Sikh community to possess and supply kirpans, or religious swords. 

Pilot whales die in another mass stranding in New Zealand

  • Fifty-one pilot whales died in another mass stranding in New Zealand, less than a week after 145 pilot whales and nine pygmy killer whales perished in two other, unrelated strandings.
