Centre of excellence for HIV care set up by Dec., 2019

  • Goa health minister Vishwajit Rane said that the state government will set up a centre of excellence for HIV care by December 2019. 


Bill passed proposing 16 per cent quota for Marathas

  • The Maharashtra assembly unanimously passed a bill proposing 16 per cent reservation for Marathas under socially, educationally and economically backward category.


UK amends weapons bill to ensure right to possession of kirpans by Sikhs

  • The UK government has confirmed an amendment to a new weapons bill going through the Parliament to ensure that it would not impact the right of the British Sikh community to possess and supply kirpans, or religious swords. 

Pilot whales die in another mass stranding in New Zealand

  • Fifty-one pilot whales died in another mass stranding in New Zealand, less than a week after 145 pilot whales and nine pygmy killer whales perished in two other, unrelated strandings. 


Congo’s Ebola outbreak

  • The World Health Organization, WHO, said that Congo’s deadly Ebola outbreak is now the second largest in history, behind the devastating West Africa outbreak that killed thousands a few years ago.


India to Chair Kimberley Process

  • The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) Plenary 2018, was held in Brussels, Belgium, from 12th-16thNovember 2018.EU handed over the Chairmanship of KPCS to India from 1st January, 2019.

  • UK-based global policy platform for public servants Apolitical has featured Andhra Pradesh IT and Panchayat Raj Minister Nara Lokesh as one of the world’s most influential young people in the government.
  • He is the only Indian leader in the top 20. 


2nd International Ambedkar Conclave

  • The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the 2nd International Ambedkar Conclave (November 30, 2018) in New Delhi as part of the commemoration of Constitution Day.
  • The Conclave is being organised by the Forum of SC and ST Legislators and Parliamentarians and the Dr Ambedkar Chamber of Commerce.
