November 25 – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

  • The United Nations General Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
  • The premise of the day is to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence.
  • 2018 Theme – “Orange the World: #HearMeToo”

Constitution day Celebration

  • The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the Constitution Day celebrations, organised by the Supreme Court, to mark the anniversary of the adoption of our Constitution on November 26, 1949, (November 26, 2018) in New Delhi.

14th Formation Day of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)

  • Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, will inaugurate the 14th Formation Day of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
  • 2018 Theme – “Early Warning for Disasters”.

  • The National Festival for Children of Child Care Institutions (CCIs)- “Hausla 2018” of the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) was inaugurated by the Secretary, Shri Rakesh Srivastava, in New Delhi.
  • 2018 theme – “Child Safety”.

Odisha

Lexicon for rare tribal languages

  • To keep vanishing tribal languages in circulation, the Odisha government has come out with lexicons of 21 such languages.
  • The bilingual tribal dictionaries for multilingual education (MLE) and trilingual tribal language proficiency modules in all the 21 tribal languages have been formulated by the Special Development Council

Inauguration of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor

  • Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu to lay the foundation stone for the construction of the the visa-free corridor from the Indian side to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur in Pakistan on November 26.
  • The Union Cabinet recently approved a proposal to build the corridor. Pakistan accepted New Delhi’s request to open the corridor ahead of Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary in November 2019.
  • The shrine is located on the banks of the Ravi at Kartarpur in Narowal district of Pakistan Punjab, 3 km from the border.

27 EU leaders approve terms of Brexit deal

  • The leaders of the 27 other European Union members states on Sunday approved the terms of a historic Brexit deal with Britain, at a special summit in Brussels.
  • Britain will leave the EU on March 29, 2019.

U.S. announces $5 million reward

  • On the 10th anniversary of the Mumbai terror attack, the state department’s Rewards for Justice (RFJ) programme offered a new reward for up to $5 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of any individual who was involved in planning or facilitating the 2008 Mumbai attack.

Taiwanese reject gay marriage

  • Voters in Taiwan passed a referendum asking that marriage be restricted to one man and one woman, a setback to LGBT couples hoping their island will be the first place in Asia to let same-sex couples share child custody and insurance benefits.

EIB expands wind energy finance plan

  • The European Investment Bank (EIB) said it will increase its support for India’s wind energy projects by expanding the existing lending programmes with SBI.

MoU between ADB and the Government of India

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $200 million loan to finance widening and upgrading of about 230 Kilometers State Highways in Bihar to all-weather standards with road safety features.

Paisa – Portal

  • A centralized electronic platform for processing interest subvention on bank loans to beneficiaries under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) named “PAiSA – Portal for Affordable Credit and Interest Subvention Access” was launched.
  • The web platform has been designed and developed by Allahabad Bank which is the Nodal bank.

Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP)

  • Preeti Sudan, Union Health Secretary did soft-launch of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) segment of Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) in seven states.
  • The path-breaking initiative will provide near-real-time data to policy makers for detecting outbreaks, reducing the morbidity and mortality and lessening disease burden in the populations and better health systems.

e-pashuhat (GPMS Transportal)

  • The portal is playing a crucial role in connecting farmers, breeders and other agencies to trade in disease-free germplasm, namely live animals, frozen semen and embryos.
  • It has been created and integrated with UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) application.
  • INDUSCHIP has been developed for genomic selection of indigenous breeds and 6000 dairy animals have been genetically evaluated using it.

Golf World Cup

  • Anirban Lahiri and Gaganjeet Bhullar are tied-10th in the Melbourne World Cup of Golf.

2018 Hockey World Cup

  • Pakistan’s team arrived in India to play in the 2018 Hockey World Cup to be held in Bhubaneswar.

Syed Modi International Badminton

  • Sameer Verma beat China’s Lu Guangzu in the men’s singles finals to retain the title at the Syed Modi International World Tour Super 300 in Lucknow.
  • This is Sameer’s third title win, following victories at Swiss Open and Hyderabad Open.
  • Former champion Saina Nehwal lost to young Han Yue of China in women’s singles summit clash.

India Vs Australia T20

  • India beats Australia by six wickets in the 3rd T20 to square T20 series 1-1.

ICC Women’s World T20

  • Australia won its fourth Women’s World Twenty20 championship after cruising to an eight-wicket victory over England in the final.

Artistic Gymnastics World Cup

  • Indian gymnast Dipa Karmarkar claimed a bronze medal at the vault event of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Cottbus, Germany.
  • Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade won the gold and USA’s Jade Carey bagged the silver.

Commonwealth fencing championship

  • India’s C.A. Bhavani Devi made history by becoming the first Indian to win the gold medal in the senior Commonwealth fencing championship held in Canberra.
