  • The Jammu and Kashmir government has set up panels for effective implementation of central power sector schemes in the state.

Karnataka

Facility for Testing Telecom products and equipment

  • The government has started a facility in Bengaluru for testing Telecom products and equipment to ensure security in digital communications at the national level.
  • The Telecom Department has set a deadline of April 2019 for mandatory testing of some telecom products including mobile phones and equipment.

Meghalaya

Ekalavya model residential schools to be set up

  • 36 Ekalavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) will be constructed in Meghalaya at the cost of 20 crore rupees each in a time frame of three years.

Maharashtra

Over 60 lakh toilets built in Maharashtra under Swachh Bharat Mission

  • Over 60 lakh toilets were built in the last four years to ensure every citizen has easy access to clean toilets. About 25 Indian states are now open defecation free with Maharashtra being one of them.

US to accuse Iran of violating chemical weapons treaty

  • The Trump administration is poised to accuse Iran of violating an international treaty that bans chemical weapons. Iran is not complying with the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention, which outlaws the production, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons.

UN committee condemns rights violations against Rohingya

  • A key UN committee approved a resolution strongly condemning the continuing “gross human rights violations and abuses” against Rohingya Muslims who are treated as outsiders in Myanmar.

  • Women and Child Development Ministry has approved setting up over one thousand Fast Track Special Courts to dispose of pending cases of rape and POCSO Act across the country.

  • The Government has delegated powers to local bodies to ensure compliance of environmental conditions for buildings, construction and area development projects measuring between 20,000 and 50,000 square metres.

Amendment of 6th schedule of Constitution

  • Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the Centre will take necessary steps for amendment of 6th schedule of the Constitution to give provision for direct funding to Autonomous District Councils.
