November 14 – World Diabetes Day

• World Diabetes Day (WDD) was created in 1991 by IDF and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes. It is marked every year on 14 November, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922.
• The Theme for World Diabetes Day 2018-19 is Family and Diabetes.

November 14 – Children’s Day

• In India, Children’s Day is celebrated on 14 November, on the birthday of the first Prime Minister of independent India, who was fondly called Chacha Nehru (Uncle Nehru) or Chachaji (Uncle), and who emphasized the importance of giving love and affection to children, to give him tribute. This Year India celebrates his 129th birth anniversary

India International Cherry Blossom Festival begins

• The third edition of the India International Cherry Blossom Festival 2018 got underway at Polo 5th Ground, Shillong. It celebrates the unique autumn flowering of the Himalayan Cherry Blossoms with several cultural events.

• Culture Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma inaugurated the 38th India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. This year the theme of the fair is Rural Enterprises in India. In this year’s fair Afghanistan is the Partner Country, while Nepal is the Focus Country.

Rs 75 commemorative coin to mark 75th anniversary of Tricolour hoisting by Bose

• The government decided to release a Rs 75 commemorative coin on the occasion of 75th anniversary of the hoisting of Tricolour for the first time by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at Port Blair.

India votes against UNGA draft resolution on use of death penalty

• India has voted against a United Nations General Assembly draft resolution on the use of death penalty, saying it goes against the statutory law of the country where an execution is carried out in the “rarest of rare” cases.

US State Department declares Jawad Nasrallah as global terrorist

• The US State Department has declared Jawad Nasrallah, the son of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, as a global terrorist as it steps up pressure on the Lebanese militia group.

UAE to participate in Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit for 2nd consecutive year

• UAE will participate in the ‘Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit’, as a partner country for the second consecutive year. The Summit is scheduled from 18th to 20th January, 2019.

ISRO successfully launches communication satellite GSAT-29

• ISRO’s heavy-lift rocket GSLV-MkIII-D2 blasted off from Sriharikota on November 14 carrying India’s latest communication satellite GSAT-29 on board. GSLV-MkIII-D2 rocket successfully injects the satellite into a geosynchronous transfer orbit.

World Customs Organisation’s regional meet begins in Jaipur

• A four-day regional meeting of the World Customs Organisation began in jaipur with representatives of 33 member countries of Asia attending it. The meeting is being jointly chaired by WCO Deputy Secretary General Ricardo Travino and Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs Chairman S Ramesh.

26th Conference of Central and State Organizations Information to the Press       

• Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is organizing 26th Conference of Central and State Organizations (COCSSO) on 15-16th November, 2018 at hotel D’Polo Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. The theme of this year’s Conference is “Quality Assurance in Official Statistics”.

Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit

• The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is scheduled from 18th to 20th January, 2019. The 9th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat 2019 Summit provides a forum for discussion on global, national and state-level agendas with a sharp focus on all round economic development for a ‘New India’.

• The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) has come up with a youth-friendly scheme ‘Yuva Sahakar-Cooperative Enterprise Support and Innovation Scheme” for attracting Youths to cooperative business ventures.

Closing Ceremony of Exercise Dharma Guardian – 2018

• The Indian Army and Japanese Army completed their joint military exercise, ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ – 2018 at Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School, Vairengte, Mizoram, India. It is a significant step towards fostering military and diplomatic ties between the two courtiers.

• Science and Technology Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan today announced the launch of the Global Cooling Prize, an international competition to incentivize the development of a residential cooling technology that will have at least five times less climate impact that the standard Room Air Conditioning (RAC) units sold today.

Government sets up state of-the-art National Data Repository

• Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said it is a database of all the geo-scientific data of hydrocarbon resources in the country. National Data Repository is equipped with cutting-edge technology and provides ready access to interested companies.
• With the introduction of National Data Repository in Indian E&P regime, India has joined the league of countries like UK and Norway which have a National Data Repository for the upstream sector.

World Women’s Boxing Championships

• The World Women’s Boxing Championships will be held in the national capital Delhi. The 35-year-old Mary Kom is tied with Katie Taylor on five gold medals and one more will make her the most successful woman boxer in history since the Irish pugilist has turned a Pro.
