  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has decided to include Gondi in the primary education curriculum of the state’s tribal-dominated districts.

  • 10-day Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) for budding entrepreneurs under Jammu and Kashmir Rural Employment Generation Programme (JKREGP) concluded at the Language Center in Kargil.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the new series of visually impaired friendly circulation coins in New Delhi. He released the coins of one, two, five, ten and twenty rupees.

PM launches Integrated Command, Control Centres

  • The Prime Minister launched the Integrated Command and Control Centers under the Mission at Gangtok and Namchi in Sikkim, Pasighat and Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh and Agartala in Tripura through video conferencing in New Delhi.

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has laid the foundation stone for the 300-crore rupees Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway project.

WHO unveils sweeping reforms in drive towards triple billion targets

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the most wide-ranging reforms in the Organization’s history to modernize and strengthen the institution to play its role more effectively and efficiently as the world’s leading authority on public health.
  • These include one billion more people benefiting from universal health coverage (UHC), one billion more people better protected from health emergencies; and one billion more people enjoying better health and well-being.

EU to continue working with Iran to promote peace, stability

  • The European Union will continue to cooperate with Iran toward peace and stability in the Middle East region and the entire world. US sanctions against Tehran were reinstated in 2018 after the United States withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which provided for the relief of economic sanctions against Tehran in return for Iran’s pledge to keep its nuclear program peaceful.

New law allows Russian lawmakers to punish online media outlets

  • Russian lawmakers have approved a law under which officials will now be able to fine or block online media outlets for publishing news they deem fake. Russia’s lower house of parliament voted in favour of the bill. Websites failing to comply would be blocked and fines could reach over 22,700 US Dollar, in case infraction leads to grave consequences like death or rioting.

OECD cuts global growth forecast over trade, Brexit uncertainty

  • The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD, has again cut its 2019 forecast for global economic growth due to ongoing trade tensions and Brexit uncertainty. OECD lowered its forecast to 3.3 per cent for this year, down from the 3.5 per cent it predicted in November. It warned that trade tensions and political uncertainty including Brexit are weighing on the world’s economy.
  • The OECD, which groups the world’s top developed economies, revised growth estimates lower in almost all of the countries in the G20 group of industrialised and emerging nations.

US revises visa policy for Pakistan

  • The US has revised its visa policy for Pakistani citizens by slashing visa validity from five years to one year. Journalists and media persons will not be allowed to stay in the country for over three months without renewing travel permit. Pakistan also issues visas for three months to American journalists.

EU vetoes plan to add Saudi Arabia to money-laundering list

  • Envoys from 28 EU member states unanimously rejected a proposal by the European Commission to add Saudi Arabia and other nations to the bloc’s money-laundering blacklist.

Eight sectors expected to add over 10 crore jobs by 2025

  • The Confederation of Indian Industry, CII said eight segments of the economy alone expected to create over 10 crore jobs by 2025. The eight sectors that CII highlighted include retail, construction, transport and logistics, tourism and hospitality, handlooms and handicrafts, textiles and apparels, food processing, and automotive.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Janaushadhi scheme, under which the government provides quality medicines at affordable rates, has led to savings worth around one thousand crore rupees for common people.

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, CCEA has approved the setting up of 50 new Kendriya Vidyalayas all over the country.

Cabinet approves investment for Kiru Hydro Electric Project in J&K

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the investment sanction for construction of 624 Mega watt Kiru Hydro Electric Project in Jammu and Kashmir.

NGT imposes Rs 500 cr fine on Volkswagen

  • The National Green Tribunal slapped a fine of 500 Crore rupees on German auto major Volkswagen for damaging the environment using cheat device in its diesel cars in India.

India, Paraguay agree to promote bilateral investment

  • India and Paraguay have agreed to identify sectors of mutual interest to promote bilateral investment and decided to explore new areas of collaboration, including Information and Communication Technology, space and biotechnology.

CCEA approves additional funds to Sugar Mills

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved additional funds to Sugar Mills amounting to two thousand 790 crore rupees.

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, CCEA has approved the investment approval for a 1320 megawatt Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant (STPP) in Bulandshahar of Uttar Pradesh.

Cabinet approves proposal for promulgation of Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers’ Cadre) Ordinance, 2019

  • Cabinet has approved the proposal for promulgation of the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers’ Cadre) Ordinance, 2019. The Ordinance will ensure that the Constitutional provisions of reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and the socially and educationally backward classes in the faculty recruitment will be protected.
