Final clearance to Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP).

  • The KCR government’s flagship scheme, Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), got a major boost with the technical advisory committee (TAC) of Union ministry for water resources granting the final clearance. With this, the project has got all the technical clearances.

Smallest sea cucumber

  • Vizhinjam Bay, a busy fishing ground noted for its biodiversity-rich marine ecosystem, is home to the smallest sea cucumber in India(which grows to a size of just 2 cm,) scientists have reported.

World first EPR nuclear reactor in China

  • A third generation European Pressurised Reactor (EPR) reactor in Taishan, China carried out its first nuclear chain reaction, an initial start up which is a world first for the much-delayed European technology.

US scientists, ship visiting Goa to boost Indian Ocean studies

  • A team of 20 scientists, along with a key vessel of the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), are arriving in Goa marking their expanding cooperation with Indian scientists in the study of the Indian Ocean.

MPC hikes repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.25%

  • The monetary policy committee of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) decided to hike the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.25 per cent while maintaining a neutral stance.

Reduction in Maternal Mortality Ratio Since 2013

  • India has registered a significant decline in Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) recording a 22-per cent reduction in such deaths since 2013, according to the Sample Registration System (SRS).

India and Norway sign MoU to extend health cooperation

  • Ministry of Health and Family Welfare signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Norway to extend the cooperation within health sector through the Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) for a period of three years starting from 2018 to 2020.

  • Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey on Wednesday appealed to make a “Tobacco-free India” and to encourage people to give up tobacco consumption.

  • Railway Board launches ‘Awareness Campaign on Protection of Children in contact with Railways’ as a Joint Initiative with National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).

UN India Business Forum

  • The UN India Business Forum and the Women Entrepreneurial Platform of NITI Aayog formed a consortium to reduce gender disparities in start-up investments by providing mentorship and networking opportunities and accelerating financial and market linkages for women entrepreneurs.

  • The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Raksha Mantri Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, met and accorded approval for the procurement of equipment for the Defence Forces valued at over Rs 5500 crore.
