  • Two species of frogs have been recorded in the Indian peninsular Fejervarya kalinaga from the Eastern Ghats and Fejervarya krishnan from the Western Ghats.

  • Tata Consultancy Services announced that it is setting up a center in Pune along with Intel for advanced computing to develop solutions in the areas of high-performance computing, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.

  • China has approved the first domestically developed, long-acting injectable HIV drug Albuvirtide which could be a boon to tens of thousands of HIV/AIDS patients in the country.

Commemoration 125th year of Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha in South Africa

  • The screening of the biopic Making of a Mahatma marked the opening of a three-day series of events to commemorate the historic incident 125 years ago when Mahatma Gandhi was evicted from a train at Pietermaritzburg which led him to develop his Satyagraha principles of peaceful resistance and mobilise people in South Africa and India against the discriminatory rules of the British.

Gene mapping of 3,000 bacteria to help fight deadly superbugs

  • Scientists seeking new ways to fight drug-resistant superbugs have mapped the genomes of more than 3,000 bacteria, including samples of a bug taken from Alexander Fleming’s nose and a dysentery-causing strain from a First World War soldier.

HCC bags contract at nuclear power project in Bangladesh

  • Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. (HCC), in a joint venture with Bangladesh construction firm MAX Group has been awarded a $110 million (Rs.737 crore) contract by Russia’s State Nuclear Company, JSC Atomstroyexport, for civil works of Turbine Island for Unit 1 of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Modi has given its approval for implementation of Phase-Ill of Off-grid and Decentralised Solar PV (Photo Voltaic) Application Programme to achieve additional 118 MWp(Mega Watt peak) off-grid solar PV capacity by 2020.
