Cancer care foundation for cheaper treatment

  • Assam is scheduled to launch a cancer care foundation, the first for any State government in India for making treatment of the disease more affordable and ensuring care for patients till survival.

Andhra Pradesh

State’s largest petroglyph site discovered at Kandanathi

  • Kandanathi, a tiny village located about 5-km south of Yemmiganur mandal headquarters in the district, is the biggest petroglyph site in Andhra Pradesh, an exploration by an archaeology researcher of Yogi Vemana University has revealed.

State’s first lemon market opened at Nakrekal

  • The Marketing Minister opened the State’s first and exclusive lemon market at Nakrekal, and a sweet lime market for farmers here in Nalgonda.

Mysuru-based startup Sahaja Seeds

  • Mysuru-based startup encourages farmers to produce indigenous and patent-free seeds of a variety of crops.

Visva-Bharati to set up yoga village

  • Visva-Bharati University (VBU), founded by Rabindranath Tagore, will set up a yoga centre inside the campus, named yoga gram (village). The centre is aimed at increasing awareness about yoga.

SAARC fund to launch social enterprise programme in India

  • Thimpu-based SAARC Development Fund will soon be launching a social enterprise development programme (SEDP) to fund 80 entities annually across the 8-member states including India.
  • The programme will be implemented in all the SAARC member states with the objective of identifying and building social enterprises by using a mix of grants and concessional returnable capital.

Treating latent TB of the uterus improves pregnancy outcomes in infertile women

  • For the first time, researchers have been able to find a direct association between latent TB of the endometrium (inner lining of the uterus) and fewer eggs in the ovary, technically called low ovarian reserve, in infertile women.

KVIC bags Air India contract

  • The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), for the third successive time, received an order of Rs 8 crore from Air India for the supply of amenity kits consisting of Khadi herbal beauty care products for its international passengers.

Govt. to set up fifth national data centre

  • The Centre will set up the country’s biggest data centre in Bhopal with a capacity to host five lakh virtual servers by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
  • This will be the fifth National Data Centre after the ones at Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Hyderabad and Pune. These National Data Centres host government websites, services and applications.

PepsiCo Foundation commits grant to WaterAid

  • PepsiCo Foundation has decided to commit a $4.26 million grant to WaterAid, a non-profit entity, to provide safe water access to communities in the southern states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

  • Prime Minister is going to have a direct dialogue with farmers across the country, for the first time in which various initiatives related to doubling the income of farmers by 2022 will also be discussed on June 20, 2018.

  • The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the 5 day Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2018 Hardware edition through Video conferencing in New Delhi.

NATIONAL YOGA OLYMPIAD-2018

  • A 3-day National Yoga Olympiad was inaugurated at the National Council of Educational Research and Training in CIET in New Delhi.

Intergovernmental ministerial meet on anti-doping begins in Colombo

  • The annual Asia and Oceania region intergovernmental ministerial meeting on anti-doping began in Colombo with representatives from 29 countries including India.
  • The 15th such annual gathering, is also being attended by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to discuss important anti-doping issues that will help in the fight for clean sport.

Commerce Minister releases study report on Indian pharma exports to China

  • The Department of Commerce in coordination with Embassy of India at Beijing commissioned a study on “Enhancing Indian Exports of Pharmaceutical products to China” under the Market Access Initiative Scheme (MAI) to have a proper understanding of Chinese market and to help the Indian pharma industry to evolve appropriate and focused strategy for entry of the Indian generic drugs.
