Government plans to set up e-waste recycling unit in Bengaluru

  • The central government’s Chemicals and Fertilizers Ministry intends to set up India’s first-ever, state-of-the-art e-waste recycling unit in Bengaluru. As India’s technology capital, Bengaluru produces an estimated one lakh tonne of electronic waste a year, according to an Economic Times report.

Maharashtra

Nagpur set to host Maharashtra Legislature monsoon session after 47 years

  • Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra, is set to host the Monsoon session of the state Legislature after a gap of 47 years.
  • This will be the fourth time that the monsoon session of the state Legislature, normally held in Mumbai, will take place in Nagpur, which has been hosting the winter session.

IIT Roorkee develops technology for railway track health monitoring using drones

  • Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, have developed computer vision approach for the monitoring of railway tracks using drones and satellite data.

  • The Union Cabinet decided to name the Agartala airport in Tripura after Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Kishore, the erstwhile ruler of the state.

Cosmic rays from massive star system may reach earth

  • Eta Carinae the most luminous and massive stellar system within 10,000 light-years is accelerating particles to high energies, some of which may reach the earth as cosmic rays, a study using data from a NASA telescope has found.

  • Bank of China one of the four biggest state-run Chinese lenders has received in-principle approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to open branches in India.

Transfer of Sashastra Seema Bal’s land to the Arunachal Pradesh

  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the Transfer of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)’s land measuring 5.99 acres at Tawang to the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh for construction of a Mega-Festival-Cum-Multipurpose Ground.

Accession to WIPO Copyright Treaty, Performance and Phonograms Treaty

  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal submitted by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry regarding accession to the WIPO Copyright Treaty and WIPO Performers and Phonograms Treaty which extends coverage of copyright to the internet and digital environment.

MoU between India and United Kingdom

  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and United Kingdom regarding cooperation between both countries in the sphere of Law & Justice and to set up a Joint Consultative Committee.
