July 2 – World UFO (unidentified flying objects) Day
  • World UFO Day is dedicated to the existence of unidentified flying objects. First celebrated in 2001, it was created by the World UFO Day Organization. The World UFO Day Organization declared July 2 to be the official day. July 2 marks the anniversary of the Roswell UFO incident, which also happened in 1947.
July 2 – World Sports Journalists Day
  • World Sports Journalists Day is celebrated on July 2 every year to honour the services of sports journalists towards the promotion of sports. World Sports Journalists Day was established by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) in 1994 to mark the 70th anniversary of its foundation.

WAPCOS celebrates 50th foundation day
  • WAPCOS, was incorporated as a Public Sector Enterprise in 1969 by the Government of India. It is a techno-commercial organization under the aegis of Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.
  • Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari will be the chief guest at the 50th Foundation Day celebration of Water and Power Consultancy Services (WAPCOS), being organized at Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra, New Delhi.
Andhra Pradesh
Visakhapatnam to host Pro Masters Badminton League
  • The three-day tournament for master players, aged 35 or above, will begin on July 30 and witness more than 100 matches.More than 96 shuttlers including former national and international players and Arjuna awardees from across the country in six teams will compete for the Pro Masters Badminton League (PMBL) title in Visakhapatnam.
Karnataka
Karnataka government urged to spend more on research on basic sciences
  • The 11th Akhila Karnataka Vijnana Sammelana, a convention on science, concluded here on Sunday and saw the passing of a resolution demanding both the Union and State governments to promote study and research on basic sciences.The three-day event was organised by the Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat.

Fly Bus to operate from airports
  • ‘Fly Bus’, the 42-seater air conditioned new bus service from the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) from Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin and Karipur International airports to the nearest cities, will commence operations from July 02.
Tamilnadu
Migrant population to benefit through ‘mPassport Seva’
  • The External Affairs Ministry has simplified the procedure for seeking passports by lifting jurisdictional restrictions. The applicant can now apply for a passport from anywhere through his/her Android mobile phone using mPassport Seva mobile app.
  • The mPassport Seva mobile app was launched on the sixth Passport Seva Diwas on June 26 by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi.

10 gates of Babli barrage opened
  • Out of 12 flood gates of the Babli project, built across the Godavari river, in Dharmabad taluq of Nanded district in Maharashtra 10 were opened in the presence of the engineering authorities of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Central Water Commission.

Japan to buy advanced US radar for missile defence system
  • Japan will pick a US-made advanced radar for its multibillion-dollar missile defence system, an upgrade that could help ease trade friction with Washington and provide cutting-edge protection against the arsenals of North Korea and China.

Cow urine can cure cancer by Gujarat team
  • Biotechnology scientists at Junagadh Agriculture University in Gujarat have succeeded in their first attempt to kill cancer cells using cow urine. They claim that cow urine can cure most types of common cancers such as those of mouth, cervix, lungs, kidney, skin and breast.
Astronomers capture image of a planet’s birth
  • Astronomers have captured the first confirmed image of a planet forming in the dust swirling around a young star. They said the planet appears as a bright spot in the snapshot taken using the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in Chile.

NIIT opens digital center in Bengaluru
  • NIIT Technologies, a BSE-listed technology company, has opened a centre of excellence here to serve its existing digital customers and rope in additional clients, according to a company statement. The Bengaluru centre will act as the central hub for all cognitive BPM solutions and innovations hub.

  • Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh chaired at the inter-session meeting of the consultative committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare on “Marine Fisheries-Mariculture in India” in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.
Election Commission of India to hold a National Consultation on Accessible Elections
  • The Election Commission of India (ECI) has organized a two-day “National Consultation on Accessible Elections,” from the 3rdJuly, 2018 in New Delhi.  It will be inaugurated by the Chief Election Commissioner Shri O.P.Rawat, in presence of the Election Commissioners Shri Sunil Arora and Shri Ashok Lavasa. The event is a part of the ECI’s pursuit of its mission ‘leave no voter behind,’ with special focus on “Persons with Disabilities” (PwD)

India’s most potent missile Agni-V to be inducted soon
  • India’s longest-range ballistic missile, Agni-V, will be inducted into the nuclear arsenal very soon.Agni-V is an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) with a range of over 5,000 km and can reach most parts of China.

  • The Southern Railway-administered Golden Rock Workshop in Trichy has been given the GreenCo Gold Certification by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The certification is given for energy conservation efforts taken by industries.

  • Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador won Mexico’s presidency with the widest margin in a presidential election since the 1980s.
Journalist Rajat Sharma is new DDCA president
  • Senior journalist Rajat Sharma beat World Cup winning Indian cricketer Madan Lal by 517 votes to become the new president of Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA).

Max Verstappen wins Austrian Grand Prix
  • Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the Austrian Grand Prix in Austria. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton retired from the race due to a mechanical issue in his car.
