  • World Braille Day is annually celebrated on January 4, the birthday of Braille inventor, Louis Braille. The day recognizes the contributions of Louis Braille in helping blind and visually impaired people to read and write.

East Siang District achieves 100% electrification

  • In Arunachal Pradesh, East Siang District has achieved 100 percent electrification under the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana- Saubhagya Scheme.

Integrated Check Post at Moreh

  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, visited Imphal and inaugurated the Integrated Check Post at Moreh. He also inaugurated the Dolaithabi Barrage Project, the FCI Food Storage Godown at Sawombung, and projects related to water supply and tourism.

  • A 10-day Indian Panorama Film Festival will begin at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi. A total of 26 Feature Films and 21 Non-Feature Films will be screened during the festival.

  • China’s defence industry giant North Industries Group Corporation Limited (NORINCO) has developed a massive bomb to be the country’s answer to the US-built ‘Mother of All Bombs’, the most powerful non-nuclear weapon.

Pakistan abolishes visa on arrival for Afghans

  • Pakistan abolished the long-standing facility of visa on arrival for Afghan nationals. The move to restrict Afghans came as Pakistan has already decided to issue ‘on-arrival’ visas to citizens of 24 other countries to increase tourism and investments.

World’s 1st woman amputee to climb Mount Vinson

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Arunima Sinha for scaling Mount Vinson, the highest peak in Antarctica. She became World’s 1st woman amputee to climb Mount Vinson.

  • Cyclonic storm “PABUK” is very likely to emerge into the Andaman Sea.

FSSAI asks food businesses to comply with new packaging norms by July 1

  • Food Safety and Standards Authority of India FSSAI has said food businesses need to comply with new packaging regulations that bar use of recycled plastics and newspapers to wrap food articles by July 1.
  • The new regulations prohibit packaging material made of recycled plastics including carry bags for packaging, storing, carrying or dispensing articles of food.

Poster exhibition on relevance of Bhagavad Gita

  • A poster exhibition on the relevance of Bhagavad-Gita combined with the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi is being organized under the aegis of the Consulate General of India, Dubai and VijnanVikas Pattern Institute.
  • The two day exhibition which will be inaugurated this evening by the Consul General Vipul will showcase a variety of hand-crafted Khadi products from the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan.
  • The exhibition is being organized as part of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi.

RTE amendment Bill passed in Parliament

  • Parliament has passed the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill, 2018, with the Rajya Sabha approving it.
  • The Lok Sabha had already passed the bill seeking to further amend the Right to Education Act, 2009 to abolish the no-detention policy in schools.

Parliament passes NCTE amendment Bill

  • Parliament has passed the National Council for Teacher Education (Amendment) Bill, 2018, with the Rajya Sabha approving it.
  • The Lok Sabha had already passed it. The bill seeks to grant retrospective recognition to Central and State institutions which had conducted teacher education courses without approval by the Council.

Young entrepreneurs to be honoured with National Entrepreneurship Awards

  • The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will host third edition of the National Entrepreneurship Awards in New Delhi. The awards aim to recognize and honor outstanding young first-generation entrepreneurs and those who have contributed immensely in building the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
