Gujarat

National Salt Satyagraha Memorial

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated National Salt Satyagraha Memorial to the nation at Dandi village, situated in South Gujarat on Arabian sea coast.
  • The Salt Satyagraha March, well known as the Dandi March of 1930 has been a landmark event in the history of India’s freedom struggle.
  • It was on this day, as a part of the Civil Disobedience Movement against the British rule, 80 Satyagrahis led by Mahatma Gandhi marched 241-miles from Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad to the coastal village of Dandi and made salt from seawater breaking the Salt Law imposed by the British.

Women electors outnumber their male counterparts

  • In Tamil Nadu, women electors outnumber their male counterparts by more than five lakh 82 thousand, as the final electors list was unveiled in Chennai. 

Telangana

Newly elected Sarpanches of Gram Panchayats

  • The Telangana state government has declared that 2nd February will be the appointing day for the newly elected over 12000 Sarpanches of the Gram Panchayats in the state.

Polar vortex brings cold snap to US states

  • The United States is shivering in a deadly cold snap known as a polar vortex. Temperatures fell to minus 30 degree Celsius in Chicago, colder than parts of Antarctica and minus 37 degree Celsius in North Dakota.

New H-1B visa filing rule to give priority to workers with advanced degrees from US

  • The US has announced a new H-1B visa filing rule from April under which priority would be given to foreign workers with advanced degrees from American universities.

Chinese government urged to legitimise babies of unmarried woman to tide over low fertility crisis

  • A single Chinese woman has asked the law makers to legalise children of unmarried women to tide over the problem of low fertility rate haunting China, the world’s most populous nation, after the number of new-borns dropped by two million last year despite the government permitting two children since 2016.

Malaysia crowns Pahang state’s Sultan Abdullah as 16th king

  • Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah of central Pahang state was crowned as Malaysia’s 16th king under a unique rotating monarchy system.

  • The Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC), the hub of ISRO’s future manned missions, was inaugurated at ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru.

42ndmeeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee

  • The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has approved the construction of another 4,78,670 more affordable houses for the benefit of urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). The approval was given in the 42ndmeeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee held in New Delhi.

PETROTECH-2019

  • PETROTECH-2019, the 13th International Oil & Gas Conference & Exhibition, being organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India, is all set to be inaugurated on February 10, 2019.

National Conference on Anti Doping

  • The conference is jointly organized by National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) and Physical Education Foundation of India(PEFI) under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Sports Minister Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore addressed the concluding session of two days National Conference on Anti Doping.
