January 26 – 70th Republic Day

  • 70th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm across the Country. The main function was organized at Rajpath in the National Capital. President Ram Nath Kovind unfurled the Tricolour and took salute of the parade. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was the Chief Guest at the Parade this year.

Foundation Stone for Six-Lane Access-Controlled Highway

  • Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Nitin Gadkari has said that works worth Rs 50,000 crore have been sanctioned for road projects around Delhi.

SC upholds constitutional validity of Insolvency laws

  • The Supreme Court has upheld the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code, IBC’s constitutional validity in its ‘entirety’ and rejected petitions challenging the bankruptcy laws. The decision is a setback to defaulting promoters hoping for a chance to remain in control of their firms.

CMB-Bharat

  • A three-week long programme entitled, ‘Cosmology – The next decade’, which consisted of a school to train early career researchers and a workshop for active researchers in the field of cosmology came to a close on January 25. The workshop was held at ICTS-TIFR, Bengaluru. In the workshop, project CMB-Bharat, which could help us listen to the faintest murmurs of the early universe, was discussed.

I&B Ministry to increase advertisement rates by 11% to private TV channels

  • Information and Broadcasting Ministry has decided to revise the advertisement rates offered by the Bureau of Outreach and Communication (BOC) to private TV channels.
  • The revised rates have been announced on the basis of a Review Committee constituted by the Ministry which submitted its report on 1st of this month.

Reform measures can ‘easily enhance growth rates by at least 1%: EAC

  • The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister EAC-PM met in New Delhi and took stock of the state of the economy.

Fourth edition of Bharat Parv

  • Fourth edition of Bharat Parv, showcasing the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat will begin at Red Fort in Delhi. It will continue till 31st January. The objective of this festival is to generate a patriotic fervour and promote rich cultural diversity of the country.

SC reconstitutes 5-member Constitution Bench to hear Ayodhya land dispute

  • A new five-judge Constitution Bench has been constituted in the Supreme Court to hear Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid land title dispute in Ayodhya. Justices Ashok Bhushan and Abdul Nazeer have been now included in the new Constitution Bench.
  • Headed by Chief justice Ranjan Gogoi, the bench also comprises of Justices S.A. Bobde and D.Y. Chandrachud.

Defence Minister confers Raksha Mantri Padak

  • Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman conferred Raksha Mantri Padak and Commendation Cards to NCC Cadets for their exemplary performance and devotion to duty.

  • In the Women’s Singles Final of the Australian Open, the first major of the season, at Melbourne, Osaka, seeded fourth, defeated eighth placed Czech Petra Kvitova, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4.
  • Japan’s Naomi Osaka has become the first player since 2001 to win back-to-back Grand Slam titles.
  • Novak Djokovic will take on Rafael Nadal of Spain in the Single’s finals of tournament.

India Vs New Zealand ODI Series

  • India beat New Zealand by 90 runs to take 2-0 series lead. Rohit Sharma was adjudged man of the match.

Indonesia Masters Badminton

  • Saina Nehwal waltzed into the summit clash of the Indonesia Masters at Jakarta. In the semi-finals, Saina beat China’s higher seed He Bingjiao.
