49th full Statehood day

  • Himachal Pradesh is celebrating its 49th full Statehood day with much fanfare and great enthusiasm throughout the state day.
  • It was on this day in 1971 when Himachal Pradesh was carved out as the 18th State of the country.

  • Punjab government said that a development authority for Anandpur Sahib will be set up to execute the development plans in the wake of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in November this year.

  • 12th Jaipur literature festival, considered to be the Kumbh of Literature, began. Around 500 authors, literateurs and thinkers are participating in the five-day event.

  • The United States has ordered its non-emergency embassy staff to leave Venezuela but refused to comply with a full expulsion demanded by Nicolas Maduro, who Washington says is no longer president.

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation successfully launched the PSLV C 44 carrying kalam sat and Microsat R.

NASA’s Opportunity rover completes 15 years on Mars

  • NASA’s Opportunity rover has completed 15 years of its touchdown on the surface of Mars. The US space agency said it has travelled 45 kilometres and logged its 5,000th Martian day back in February 2018.

Around 61.7 mn affected due to extreme weather events in 2018: UN report

  • Earthquakes and tsunamis accounted for most of the 10,373 lives lost in disasters last year, while extreme weather events accounted for most of 61.7 million people affected by natural hazards, the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) has said.

  • President Ram Nath Kovind said millennials will be eligible to vote for the first time in the general elections this year.

Centre to renovate, develop around 400 abandoned airstrips across country

  • Centre has decided to renovate and develop around 400 abandoned airstrips across the country to strengthen air-connectivity. The Airports Authority of India prepared a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard and sent it to all the 29 states and seven Union Territories expressing its willingness to develop those air strips along with the respective state governments.

  • Defence Ministry has said, the disability or war injury pension for armed forces personnel shall be minimum Rs. 18,000 per month.
