ICFOSS launches first public LoRa network

  • The International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS), an initiative of the government of Kerala, has rolled out the first public LoRa Wide Area Network in Kerala for Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
  • LoRaWAN is a low-power network specification intended for wireless battery operated things in a regional, national, or global network.

Multi-State disaster mock exercise

  • A multi-State mock exercise on earthquake was conducted by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in three North Eastern States of Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram today for assessing the preparedness and response mechanism of the State Governments in a disaster situation.

First woman lawyer to become SC judge

  • Indu Malhotra first woman lawyer to become Supreme Court

 Judge on 26th April 2018.

  • The Law Ministry said that, the government has cleared the appointment of senior advocate Indu Malhotra as a judge of the Supreme Court

First license for Liquid Chlorine on All India Basis with Standard Mark under BIS Certification Marks scheme

  • Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) granted First Licence to M/s Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd for Liquid Chlorine on All India basis.
  • It is used mainly in paper, pulp, textile bleaching, water sterilization and manufacture of chemicals.
  • This product is in liquid form and stored in metal containers. It is usually used as a gas obtained by evaporating the liquid from the metal container.

CSIR bags National Intellectual Property (IP) Award

  • The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is awarded the National Intellectual Property (IP) Award 2018 in the category “Top R&D Institution / Organization for Patents and Commercialization”.
  • The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) is a contemporary R&D organization.
  • It has been ranked 9th in the world amongst the 1207 government institutions, with an overall global ranking of 75 in the world, covering 5250 institutions.

BARC offers first indigenous bulletproof vest

  • The Bhabha Atomic Reseach Centre (BARC) has developed a next-generation cheaper and lighter bulletproof jacket for the Indian armed forces.
  • Bhabha Kavach can shield from AK-47 (hard steel bullets), SLR and INSUS weaponry; undergoing tests by armed forces

Tourism Ministry launches 360° Virtual Reality (VR) video on Incredible India

  • Ministry of Tourism, Government of India in collaboration with Google India today launched a 360° Virtual Reality (VR) experience video on Incredible India https://t.co/H1VdcNXBUR.
  • Minister of State (IC) for Tourism, Shri K. J. Alphons said, “India is an iconic destination that offers unique experiences of climate, geography, culture, art, literature, and food”

India’s ranking in press freedom falls to 138

  • India’s ranking has fallen two places to 138th position in a ranking of 180
  • Norway topped the list of having the world’s freest press for the second year in a row.

Monthly Payroll Data released for the first time

  • The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) and the Pension fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) have released payroll data.
  • India has, for the first time, introduced monthly payroll reporting for the formal sector to facilitate analysis of new and continuing employment.

SCIENCE

  • Europe’s Gaia satellite has produced a 3-D map of more than a billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy — complete with their distance from Earth, colour, and motion through space.
  • The eagerly-anticipated catalogue, published on Wednesday, was compiled from data Gaia gathered on some 1.7 billion stars from its unique vantage point in space, about 1.5 million kilometres from the earth.

Bhaker, Om Prakash finish fourth after setting World Record

  • Manu Bhaker and Om Prakash Mitharval combined strongly to strike a World record 778 in qualification but missed a medal in the mixed air pistol team competition in the shooting World Cup here on 26.04.2018.
