In response to the escalating number of COVID-19 instances, the Bihar government stated on Thursday that all schools, universities, coaching centres, and hostels will be shuttered till January 21. The state administration has also instructed all government and commercial offices to operate with a 50% staffing level.
Meanwhile, Bihar reported 1659 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours on Wednesday. At present, Bihar has a total of 3697 active CCOVID cases, with a 97.84 per cent recovery rate.
The Bihar government imposed a new restriction on Tuesday, enacting a statewide night curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from January 6 to 21. The Bihar government has ordered the closure of parks, gyms, swimming pools, and malls for the next two weeks as part of the Covid-19 restrictions. Authorities agreed against implementing a total lockdown in the eastern state at Tuesday’s meeting.
Due to the state government’s restrictions, Bihar was one of several states and union territories (UTs) throughout the country that had subdued New Year festivities. Last week, the governing party ordered the closure of all state parks from December 31 to January 2, with no public New Year’s Eve festivities permitted in any park.
