Central Government announced 5.86 Cr Covid-19 Vaccine Doses to be provided for all State & Territories: From May 1 to June 15, a total of 5.86 crore COVID vaccine doses will be distributed free of charge to states and UTs, according to advance visibility provided by the Centre to states and UTs, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday. In addition, the ministry said that, based on information obtained from vaccine manufacturers, a total of 4.87 crore doses would be available for direct procurement by states and UTs until the end of June.
To ensure effective and judicious use of available doses for successful implementation of the vaccination campaign, states and UTs have been advised to prepare a district-by-district, COVID Vaccination Centre (CVC)-by-COVID. They were urged to use a variety of media outlets to spread the word about the initiative in order to raise public awareness, avoid overcrowding at CVCs, and make the process of booking appointments on CoWIN as simple as possible, according to a ministry release.
State governments and private CVCs have been instructed to post their vaccination calendars in advance on the CoWIN digital platform and to avoid publishing single-day vaccination calendars. According to the announcement, states and UTs have been instructed to guide concerned officials to prepare an advance schedule for administering the COVID-19 vaccine until June 15.

The vaccination programme as a tool to protect the country’s most vulnerable populations from COVID-19 is still being checked and controlled at the highest level, according to the statement. From May 1, the Liberalized Pricing and Accelerated National COVID-19 Vaccination Strategy went into effect.
As part of the plan, the Centre will procure 50% of the total Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) cleared vaccine doses per month and continue to make them available to state governments at no cost, as it has done previously. Furthermore, the remaining 50% of CDL cleared vaccine doses will be available for direct purchase by state governments and private hospitals every month.
