As the number of COVID-19 cases keeps increasing in the country, the Banaras Hindu University has announced that the university will be closed till May 15 and even online classes will be suspended for this period. The notification that came late on May 6, also said that no exams will be held before June 30.
The University may release the schedule for examination after reviewing the situation at the time. “The office work will be conducted on a work from home basis,” The offices will also be closed during this period but if there is an emergency, the staff could be called in. The staff will be available over the telephone at all times, said the university.
The university had asked hostellers to go to their native places and take the online, open-book exams “in safety of their homes”.
“It would be in the interest of the students to take their books and study material and go to their home…” the university had earlier said, adding that “appropriate handling and due care of students” will not be possible if COVID-19 infection spreads, due to “limited resources” at the university.
The Banaras Hindu University has also directed guidelines that no outsiders will be allowed inside the campus and only the main gate shall remain open for any kind of commute. Students are further advised to keep visiting the official website of BHU for more updates.Many other Universities including the Delhi University, Lucknow University have also suspended their online classes for a certain duration of time due to concerns over covid-19.
