Some Apple staff calls for flexibility in return-to-office pilot!!A segment of Apple employees has objected to the company’s return-to-work policy. Six reasons why the hybrid working pilot doesn’t represent the essence of flexible work have been addressed. From May 23, Apple staff will return to work three days a week. They remarked in an open letter to the management team released by a group called Apple Together about what they think about office-bound labour. “We wanted to write down some of our thoughts about returning to work so you could see why we don’t think the Hybrid Working trial is a good idea.” You’ve described the decision to launch the Hybrid Working Pilot as a way to combine the “desire to commune in person” with the benefits of flexible employment.
The letter addressed the issue of three fixed days in the office and two WFH days separated by an office day, which leaves little room for flexibility. Even more so for organisations those are required to be in the office for four or five days. “We are not requesting that everyone be compelled to work from home. We want to select for ourselves, in collaboration with our teams and direct managers, what kind of work environment works best for each of us, whether it’s in an office, from home, or a hybrid approach. Stop treating us like schoolchildren who need to be told when and where they should be and what homework they should do.”
“We’d make sure Apple delivered on its promises to its consumers regardless of the conditions,” Tim (Cook) said in the initial ‘Returning to our offices’ email, according to the group. “It is true that we have kept our promises and will continue to do so. Despite not being able to travel to an office in many circumstances, we were extraordinarily adaptable and resilient, and we developed new ways to perform our work.”

They’ve requested the management team to be more flexible and let go of the Hybrid Working Pilot’s tight policies. “Stop attempting to determine how often you can see us at work. Trust us, we understand how each of our modest contributions goes to Apple’s success and what it takes to achieve it. Our direct bosses believe in us and, in many situations, would gladly allow us to work in a more flexible environment. Why wouldn’t they? We’ve been doing it successfully for the past two years.
