One Nation, One Ration Card scheme

  • Assam has become the 36th State to implement One Nation One Ration Card scheme on June 2022.
  • The scheme has launched in 2019, the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme aims to revolutionize India’s public distribution system.
  • This scheme is aimed at enabling migrant workers and their family members to seamlessly lift their entitled subsidized food grains from any Fair Price Shop of their choice anywhere in the country.
  • With this, the ONORC programmed has been successfully implemented in all states and Union Territories, making food security portable throughout the country, it said.
  • To make this scheme more seamless and swift, The government has also rolled out the MERA RATION mobile Application.

Indian communication satellite has launched by Arianespace

  • European space agency Arianespace on Wednesday will put into orbit two communication satellites belonging to India and Malaysia in geostationary orbit.
  • The two satellites cumulatively weighing over 10 thousand kilograms has flown by Ariane-5 rocket from the spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.
  • GSAT-24 built by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is a 24-Ku band communication satellite weighing 4,180 kg with pan India coverage for meeting the direct-to-home (DTH) application needs.
  • Arianespace SA is a French company founded in 1980 as the world’s first commercial launch service provider.
  • The headquarters of Arianespace is in Evry-Courcouronnes, Essonne, France.

Indian women’s Wrestling team

  • Indian women’s Wrestling team has won five medals to claim Under-17 Asian Championship title with a total of eight gold at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
  • India won the title with a total of 235 points from eight golds, one silver and one bronze.
  • Bouts in 5 weight categories of women wrestling were held. Indian women including Ritika won gold in 43 kilogram, Ahilaya Shinde got gold in 49 kilogram, Siksha lifted gold medal in 57 kilogram, Priya received gold in 73 kilogram while Pulkit secured a Silver medal in 65 kilogram.
  • Indian women’s team end U17 Asian Wrestling Championship with 8 gold medals.
  • In addition, the competitions in 3 weight categories of Free Style were also held and Parwinder Singh won Gold in 80kg while Narender won Silver in 71 kg.

India’s first women to secured the first rank in the National Defense Academy

  • Shanan Dhaka has secured the first rank in the examination for admission to the country’s first women’s NDA batch.
  • Hailing from Haryana, Shanan Dhaka ranked first among all girls in the NDA entrance exam and was ranked 10th overall. This is the first time the National Defence Academy will admit women candidates.
  • The NDA course will have 19 girl cadets — 10 for the Army, six for the Air Force and three for the Navy.
  • Shanan, 19, has studied in the Army Public Schools at Roorkee, Jaipur .
  • Last year, she enrolled for an undergraduate course at Lady Shri Ram College for Women in Delhi.
  • Upon hearing about the opportunity for women at NDA, she “decided to apply at once”and she has secured the first rank in the examination.

June 23 is United Nations Public Service Day

  • On 20 December 2002, the General Assembly designated 23 June as Public Service Day.
  • The United Nations Public Service Day is celebrated on June 23 of every year.
  • Significance of the day -highlights the value and virtue of public service to communities and development.
  • It also recognizes the work of public servants and encourages young people to pursue careers in the public sector.
  • The theme for 2022 year’s event is “Building back better from COVID-19: Enhancing innovative partnerships to meet the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Mongolia’s Khuvsgul lake added to UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves

  • Khuvsul Lake National Park of Mangolia has been added to the World Network of Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO on June 2022.
  • The Lake is located in the Northern Mongolian Province of Khuvsgul near the Russian border.
  • Khuvsul Lake added to the World Network of Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO it was said by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism recently.
  • The decision was made during the 34th session of the International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Programme taking place in Paris, France, from Monday to Friday, the Ministry said in a statement.
  • Khuvsgul Lake is located in the northern Mongolian province of Khuvsgul near the Russian border, holding nearly 70 per cent of Mongolia’s fresh water, or 0.4 per cent of the world’s total. The lake is 1,645 meters above sea level, 136 km long and 262 meters deep. A total of nine sites from Mongolia have so far been registered in the network, according to the Ministry.

Manpreet Singh appointed captain of the Indian hockey team for the Commonwealth Games

  • 2022 Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham, England from July 28 to August 8.
  • This is the 22nd Commonwealth Games
  • A total of 10 teams are participating in the men’s hockey tournament.
  • India had initially planned to send a 2nd tier hockey team to the Commonwealth Games, but the Asian Games scheduled to be held in China in September have been postponed due to the spread of the Corona.
  • Manpreet Singh, captain of the historic Indian team that won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, has been re-appointed as captain.

Appointment of new Ambassador to the UN

  • Ruchira Kamboj Appointed India’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York.
  • She is India’s current Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bhutan.
  • She was the Indian Foreign Service Officer in 1987.
  • She will succeed T.S.Tirumurti as the Indian ambassador to the UN.

PM to inaugurate Vanijya Bhawan and launch NIRYAT portal on 23rd June

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new premises of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry – ‘Vanijya Bhawan’ – on 23rd June 2022.
  • During the Programme, Prime Minister will also launch a new portal – NIRYAT (National Import-Export Record for Yearly Analysis of Trade) – which is developed as a one stop platform for stakeholders to get all necessary information related to India’s foreign trade.
  • It will serve as an integrated and modern office complex that will be used by the two Departments under the Ministry i.e. Department of Commerce and Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
