Institutions at GAU to get status of Institution of National Importance

The union cabinet granted the approval making the status of Institution of National Importance to a cluster of Ayurvedic institutions at Gujarat Ayurved University in Jamnagar.With the (INI) status, Jamnagar Ayurveda University will become the first Ayurveda institute to join the ranks of the IIT’s and AIIMS.

The status of the institution will provide it with the autonomy to upgrade the standard of Ayurveda education, frame various courses in Ayurveda as per national and international demand.

Visakhapatnam to host naval exercise ‘MILAN’ in March 2020 

The Vishakapatnam city of Andhra Pradesh will host International naval exercise ‘MILAN’ in March 2020. The theme of the exercise for the year 2020 is ‘Synergy Across the Seas’.  Milan exercise which will be hosted by Eastern Naval Command (ENC) aims to enhance professional interaction between foreign navies and also make use of the best practices in the maritime domain.

EC of India and Mauritius renewed MoU on cooperation in electoral management 

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of electoral managementwith the electoral commission of Mauritius. The renewal was done at Port Louis of Mauritius and was signed by India’s Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) Sunil Arora and Mohammed Irfan Abdool Rahman, Electoral Commissioner of Mauritius.

Indian Railways installs IP based Video Surveillance System in railway stations to enhance the security

Indian Railways is in the process of installing Internet Protocol (IP) basedVideo Surveillance System (VSS) at railway stations. In the last budget Rs 250 crore was allocated to Indian Railways from Nirbhaya funds for installation of VSS in983 railway stations. In the first phase of installation VSS is being installed at 200 stations and as on date work has been completed at 81 stations across India.

Maharashtra CM to inaugrate “Advantage Maharashtra expo 2020”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will inaugurate “Advantage Maharashtra expo 2020” in Aurangabad.The Exhibition has been organised by the Marathwada Association of Small Scale Industries and Agriculture (MASSIA).

This Exhibition showcase the growth of Marathwada industries in technology and innovation and the products produced and exported from the region will be showcased in this exhibition.

Gujarat and Eight North-Eastern states to celebrate Madhavpur Mela of Gujarat on 2nd April 2020

Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) chaired a high- level meeting for the preparation of the annual festival Madhavpur Mela of Gujarat which will be held at  Madhavpur Ghed in Porbandar district of Gujarat on 2nd April 2020.

The seven days festival celebrates the immortal journey of Lord Krishna and Rukmini from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat.The eight North-Eastern states namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura will participate in this festival.

Henley Passport Index 2020: India ranks 84;Japan tops

Henley passport Index 2020 was released by Henley & Partners. As per the index based on the data obtained from International Air Transport Association (IATA), Indian passport ranked at the 84th spot among the world’s most powerful passports list, which is a drop by 2 places as it ranked 82nd in 2019. The list was topped by Japan.

US Armed Forces & Pentagon designated as ‘terrorist entities’ by IRAN

The Iranian parliament has designated US Armed Forces & Pentagon as ‘Terrorist Entities’ with a motion passed at an open parliament session.It also seeks the allocation of 200 Million Euros to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force.

The allocation to the IRGC Quds Force could be used avenge the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, Iraq’s Popular Forces Commander Abu Mahdi al-Modandis and eight other military men.

According to the Deutsche Bank report Imagine 2030, the Indian economy is likely to become $7 trillion by 2030. The Indian Economy is expected to grow almost two and half times from about $3 trillion now and thus it becomes the world’s third-largest economy.

State Bank of India has announces RBBG scheme

State Bank of India has announced the Residential Builder Finance with Buyer Guarantee (RBBG) scheme to give a push to residential sales and improve home buyers confidence.

Under this scheme, the guarantee would be given by the bank until the project gets the occupation certificate (OC)

HDFC Bank launches customized ‘myApps’ for large institutions

HDFC (Housing Development Finance Corporation) Bank,an Indian banking and financial services company, for the 1st time has launched ‘myApps’, which is a suite of white-label apps to benefit urban local bodies, housing societies, local clubs and gymkhanas and religious institutions.

Lokpal Member and the Former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Dilip B Bhosale resigns

Lokpal Member and the Former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale has resigned from his post due to some personal reasons. He was appointed by Lokpal Chairman Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose on March 27, 2019.

Bhosale was the acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from 2015-2016.

Jasbinder Bilan wins 2019 Costa Children’s Award

Jasbinder Bilan has won the UK based Costa Children’s Award 2019 . She has won the award for her debut novel ‘Asha and the Spirit Bird’.She will receive 5,000 pounds as prize money associated with the award. Jasbinder’s novel “Asha and the Spirit Bird” was shortlisted from 144 other entries.

Bilan’s book was shortlisted form 144 entries alongside ‘Crossfire’ by Malorie Blackman,’In the shadow of Heroes’ by Nicholas Bowling and ‘Furious Thing’ by Jenny Downham.

India listed as 5th biggest Geo-political Risk of 2020

The Eurasia Group releases its ‘Top 10 Risks’ of the Year report annually considering one of the principal geopolitical indicators among global investors, multinational firms and various financial and business consultancies.

India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been listed as the 5th biggest Geo-political Risk of 2020.The listing was done by Eurasia Group in its report.

Women weightlifter Sarbjeet Kaur banned for 4 years by NADA

Indian women weightlifter Sarbjeet Kaur has been banned for 4 years from the sport by the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA).This ban was imposed on her for involving in doping violation.

The sample of Sarbjeet was collected during 34th Women Senior National Weightlifting Championship held at Vishakhapatnam.

Sangeet-Natak Akademi awardee Dhadi folk singer Idu Sharif passed away at 80

Dhadi folk singer Idu Sharif 80 years old died at Manji Majra,Chandigarh as he was suffering from paralysis. Idu Sharif was born in the village Lalodi of Nabha in Patiala,Punjab.

Idu Sharif received an award from Sangeet Natak Akademi,New Delhi and Tamra Patra award in 2006 by Former President of India Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam.

16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated every year on January 9. It is also called NRI (Non-Resident Indian) day.  The day was chosen because on January 9,1915 Mahatma Gandhi,the greatest Pravasi came to India from South Africa and led India’s freedom struggle.

Important Points:

  • Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was celebrated for the first time in 2003 and is observed by Ministry of External Affairs every year.

In 2019 it was celebrated in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and 2018 in Singapore.
