800000+ Vacancies in Central Government of India!!! Mission to Fill within 18 Months – PM’ s Decision.The administration told the Rajya Sabha in February that there were an anticipated 8.72 lakh openings for regular civilian personnel in various Central ministries and departments as of March 1, 2020.
In response to a question dated February 3, 2022, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh stated that between 2018-19 and 2020-21, over 2.65 lakh Central government posts were filled through recruitment agencies such as the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), and Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs). In 2018-19, 38,827 people were hired, with over 1.48 lakh hired in 2019-20 and 78,264 hired in 2020-21.
In response to a relevant query in the Rajya Sabha, Singh stated that 21,255 Group A posts, 94,842 Group B posts, and 7.56 lakh Group C posts were vacant in Central ministries and departments. However, the 8.72 lakh vacancies on March 1, 2020 were fewer than the 9.10 lakh on March 1, 2019, but higher than the 6.82 lakh on March 1, 2018.
According to department-by-department data on vacancies in the Central government (as of March 1, 2020) cited by Singh in response to a question in the Lok Sabha on March 30 this year, the most vacant positions were in civil defence (2.47 lakh), followed by railways (2.37 lakh), ministry of home affairs (1.28 lakh), department of posts (90,050), and Indian audit and accounts department (90,050). On March 1, 2020, the department of science and technology had 8,237 empty positions, followed by the ministry of mining with 6,925, the ministry of personnel with 2,375, water resources with 4,557, social justice and empowerment with 215, tribal affairs with 141, and the PMO with 117.

SSC hired more than 1 lakh people in 2018-19, 14,691 in 2019-20, and 68,891 in 2020-21. Meanwhile, RRBs hired 17,680 people in 2018-19, 1.28 lakh in 2019-20, and 5,764 in 2020-21, totaling nearly 1.51 lakh people hired over three years.
The government sends out directives to all ministries and departments on a regular basis to ensure that empty positions are filled as soon as possible.
