In India, there are 43 Central Universities across the country. A total of 6,549 teaching posts are vacant. This includes 988 seats for SCs, 576 seats for STs and 1,761 seats for OBCs. In three universities in Tamil Nadu, 52 seats are vacant. Meanwhile in Andhra Pradesh, only five seats are vacant. In the southern region of the country lot of vacancies are vacant in the Central Universities.

As per the latest data the vacant positions of Telangana 304, 156 in Puducherry, 94 in Karnataka and 83 in Kerala. Among the reputed universities, New Delhi University has 900 vacancies. Allahabad University has 622 seats, Banaras Hindu University has 532 seats, Aligarh Muslim University has 498 seats and Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi has 326 seats.
